Interview with Tobiasz Konieczny

1 – To Start, tell us a bit about yourself where you were born and where you live…

I’m Tobiasz Konieczny, a 20 years old student of Graphic Design from Lodz, Poland. I have specialized in illustration, animation and computer graphics.

2 – How did you get started in the arts?

There is exactly no answer to say when, why and how I have get started in the arts, but I remember that I did first illustrations just one year ago, when I went to prove something to my boss. That’s probably the first time when I start to express myself and decided to wanted to have a go at the illustration, alone.

3-  Where do yo draw your inspiration from?

If inspiration comes to me it seldom comes from true life: war, death, famine and poverty.

4-  Can you describe for us what a regular day is like for you?

A lot of coffee and work everyday.

5-  What is your most common approach for completing a project?

Thinking about ideas and content freely-whith the deadline far away.

6-  Out of all your work what is your favorite piece and why?

I have got sentiment to a lot of works but “Veni et Vidi” is the best one of simple reason: It is my first computer illustration what I have made ever.

7-  Is it easy to make a living in the work that you do?

I suppose that today it is hard to do and find something fresh, new and suprising but if you start to using a wide variety of tools and techniques, working on projects that matter you, you can do everything what you want.

8-  Who is your biggest influence?

I get influenced by the works of only a few great illustrators: Kallwejt, Bułka, Majewski and Wagenbreth.

9-  How important is technology for the work that you do? What tools could you not live with out?

I get started project from some simple sketches on paper and finish it in Illustrator. I really like to do it using a wide variety of tools and techniques, animation and computer graphics for example.

10- How important is color in your work and why?

Color is so important to express some emotions from a simple image. I think that Graphic Design without a color could not exist,except Grayscale.

11- Whats your favorite color?

I really like Grayscale colors.
